About DGRS

Established in 2020, Don Greig Racing Stables caters for runners of all abilities. We focus on cross country, road and track running. Structured training sessions, in Hagley Park and on the Port Hills, in a friendly supportive environment will enable you to achieve your running goals. Club members participate in many events from 5k Parkruns, Canterbury inter-club competitions, through to National Championships including both competitive and social grades.

History of the Club

The Don Greig Racing Stables began when, after a Sunday run, some of the runners decided to surprise Don by printing up some T-shirts with the DGRS name and logo on them to wear at the 2016 Buller Marathon. Adam Jacques won the Half Marathon and when he accepted his prize told everyone about the newest running club in town – DGRS. The following week, prospective members from as far away as Ashburton started getting in touch wanting to know how to join. We started running in the black and white singlet with the prancing horse, and the idea of creating an affiliated club was born. Negotiating the challenges of turning this into reality took a number of years, but with perseverance DGRS was established as a registered club with Athletics New Zealand in 2020.
